The Porchester Golf Society: A Tradition of Friendship and Golf Excellence
Founded in the winter of 1998, the Porchester Golf Society emerged from a group
of friends who had
transitioned from football and cricket to embrace the passion for golf.
What started as casual weekend rounds quickly evolved into a society dedicated to
competitive play,
camaraderie, and shared enjoyment of the game.
Origins and Early Years
The society’s name was inspired during a New Year’s Eve gathering at Porchester
Hall in Bayswater, embodying a sense of class, stature, and establishment that the
founders wanted to reflect. In 1999, the society officially formed with 19 members
and hosted six events, beginning with the inaugural competition at Lamerwood Golf
and Country Club, won by Vinny Bulsara. The successful first year culminated in
a gathering at The Five Lakes Country Club in Essex.
Growth and Development
As membership expanded, so did the variety and competitiveness of events. The society
introduced a monthly knockout Matchplay event in 2001 and launched the Internal
Ryder Cup, pitting winners against each other in team competition. A midweek event
was added in 2004, providing access to exclusive courses that were otherwise unavailable
on weekends.
Between 2005 and 2016, the society proudly participated in the ISCC, engaging the best players from
eight golfing societies in thrilling team matchplay. In 2017, a partnership with
C2K society enriched the calendar, combining shared golf days with social dinners
that fostered even stronger bonds among members.
Social Spirit and Community
More than golf, Porchester Golf Society is about friendship, laughter, and shared
experiences. Social evenings—especially the much-anticipated Karoga night, expertly
arranged by Kesh Patel—have become treasured highlights of the year. The society’s
strong rapport with local restaurants adds to the welcoming atmosphere that members
deeply appreciate.

With growth comes the challenge of diverse views. To maintain order and inclusiveness,
the society elects a committee to navigate decisions and represent members. The
Porchester Golf Society thrives on friendly yet competitive spirit, ensuring every
member feels valued in a community dedicated to the love of golf.
